Hello, and a very happy Chinese New Year to you Chinese New Year marks the start of the Lunar calendar and as such, the date changes each year This year it falls on 1 February Chinese New Year celebrations have taken place in Stockport for many years In particular, Stockport has had the past pleasure of welcoming a team of artists from Kaifeng in China who, alongside local performers, have provided spectacular performances to mark Chinese New Year I would like to thank Kaifeng City Council and Kaifeng Cultural Bureau for facilitating these cultural visits in the past Unfortunately, due to the impact of the pandemic still with us, it has again not been possible to arrange the performances this year Stockport looks forward to a return of the usual Chinese New Year festivities in years ahead and to once again welcoming the Kaifeng Cultural and Arts Delegation to the borough I wish all in Stockport and Keifeng a very happy Chinese New Year, for the Year of the Tiger with best wishes for a happy and healthy year ahead
