Hi, I’m Cllr Adrian Nottingham, Mayor of Stockport I’d like to take this opportunity to say congratulations to the Stopfordians Who have been competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics It must be stated that every single one of these athletes has achieved incredible things, Against the backdrop of an immensely challenging year. We as a community have come together to celebrate the fantastic dedication and hard work that it takes to compete at an Olympic and Paralympic levels And the incredible sporting feats we’ve seen over the past few weeks from our local athletes It really has been great to see that local pride and local support on TV, online and in person Congratulations are in order for all of these athletes, who have all made us all so proud of them, and proud of the borough and our local communities It can’t be said enough how important the work of local organisations is to the success of these athletes on an international level Every member of our Stockport community has, in their own small way, had an impact on our athletes of international renown It’s things like this that make us proud to be One Stockport I’d like to take this moment to say congratulations to the athletes once again, and encourage everyone to celebrate them as they deserve And support their local sporting organisations, whether that’s through your own participation, a little bit of helping out, or whatever you can do. You may well help to nurture the next Stopfordian talent to reach the international sporting stage
