[Jo] I'm going to hand over to Liz to talk a bit more about this. [Liz] Hi everyone, thank you so much for being here today and for being part of this event, which is our first ever Climate Action Now summit. It's been brilliant so far. So, as Councillor Bailey mentioned earlier, we have launched a Stockport CAN Funding scheme today as part of our Climate Action Now work. So in the Stockport CAN funding, residents can apply for grants, and typically this is from £100 up to about £500. And this is for micro-projects that impact greenhouse gas emissions here in Stockport. So this could be things like community food growing. It might be repair and reuse. It might be energy saving devices, community action days and loads more. So why are we focusing on greenhouse gas emissions? It's simple. Reducing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is the key to tackling climate change, and this requires big and small actions. So our hope for this fund is that through everyday actions through all, adding into the actions that all the amazing community groups, schools and residents across the borough are already doing. Adding in this extra step of climate action will help to reduce those greenhouse gas emissions here in Stockport. And this fund, we're really hoping to get people applying who perhaps aren't already taking climate action as such. You might be a community group who's running a coffee morning, and this funding might allow you to add something into that event you're already doing to ramp up your climate action. So I just wanted to share with you what could be eligible for this funding. So we're talking about greenhouse gas emissions. Lots of things could impact on greenhouse gases. So this might be reducing energy use, as we've just heard from Andrew. It could be local and seasonal food growing like Dave and Gemma. Or it could be cooking, it could be teaching people to cook, teaching people to avoid food waste or to make the most out of local seasonal ingredients. It could be projects around reducing food waste and reducing other waste. It could be around reusing, and repairing materials it could be improving the local environment, whether that's through planting or it could be caring for local environment. You might be encouraging or enabling sustainable travel. And one thing this could be is encouraging walking to school or enabling safe cycling. Or it might be that you want to raise awareness and education around climate change and that your proposal might be around helping to spread the word. It might be around events, it might be around carbon literacy, but helping more people to find out about this and get excited about this. I wanted to give you a couple of examples and a big asterisk. This is not an exhaustive list. We just wanted to give you some examples of what could be eligible for the funding. So a community centre could apply for money to purchase energy saving devices for their building. This might be things like radiator reflectors, simple draught proofing, it could be things like LED lightbulbs, so as well as reducing those greenhouse gases, this could also help control rising energy bills. On the next slide, we've got an example: a group could apply for seed funding to start a repair café, so it might be that you could purchase a couple of sewing machines with this funding. Or you could purchase some tools and some equipment that help you run a repair café with your group or from your community centre or from your school or place of worship. Repairing those items would divert that waste from landfill. But also, it's going to be sharing skills with community members, increasing interaction, decreasing social isolation and really getting all those co-benefits involved as well. On the next side, we have an example that a group could apply for money to build raised beds, and this could enable them to start food growing. So this food growing, whether that's through raised beds, whether it's pot growing, whether it's small space growing, this would directly reduce and capture some emissions. But doing this could also educate people about how choosing local seasonal food could lower their carbon footprint. Next slide, please. So, some guidance. This has been published online today when the fund was launched. You must read the full guidance before applying, and when you go to the online application form, it will ask you if you've read the full guidance. Please do read the important information about restrictions on what can be funded. There are some restrictions on this one, so please do read that before you spend time putting an application together. On the application form, it's an online form and two key things to address are: how will your proposal impact greenhouse gas emissions? And how will it benefit a group of people? We want lots of people to be involved and lots of people to be taking part in these actions. The decisions will be made by your local councillors. When you send an application in, we'll share this with the local councillors for your area where the proposal will take place and local councillors are going to be picking which projects get funded for this and making those important decisions. And that will happen at their six-weekly Area Committees. And just to let you know, there's £9000 available for every ward in Stockport and that is available up till December 2022. Okay, next slide, please. So an extra note. In the application form, you'll be asked to itemise the different things that you need to buy to make your proposal happen. And as part of One Stockport, one of our aims is to help local businesses as we recover from the pandemic. We just want to ask you to, wherever you can, please choose local businesses, local producers, local suppliers for those things that you're going to buy for your proposals for this fund. Next slide, please. We'll pop this link in the chat. So this is the link to where you can find the online application form and the important information and guidance for applying for the fund. Thank you very much.
