Presenter: I wanted to talk firstly about Bramhall Manor, which was a great announcement this week. Cllr Wilson: Yeah, it’s a really great announcement, so, together with partners we’ve been working really really hard, council workers have done a huge amount of work in such a short space of time, continuing to deliver services, the new 71-bed care home in Bramhall is a really good example of where we’re really pulling out the stops. Presenter: It is going to free up some space at Stepping Hill, isn't it, I understand? Cllr Wilson: It’s a facility that we’re going to use for people who, as they are getting better, and they have had care at the hospital, but they're not quite ready to go home yet, so actually these are people who are well but need a bit of extra support so this is a kind of stop gap before they are able to go home. So, yeah, it should be really good for people, for Stepping Hill, for the hospital, but also for people to get back home, you know? - Yeah Cllr Wilson: Most people want to get back home, don’t they? Presenter: Of course, of course. What other developments have the Council been involved with co-ordinating this week? Cllr Wilson: Co-ordinating communities and volunteers to deliver the food and care packages, as well, and organising all the local school provision for children and young people of key workers, including over Easter, and on top of all that we have set up a helpline number for people, if they think that they need some extra help, or they are finding themselves in a vulnerable situation, they can give us a ring on 0161 217 6046 and again there is lots of up-to-date information on the Council website. There are over 47,000 people in Stockport that are over 70 and proportionally, compared to the whole of the population of Stockport, we have the most over 70s in our borough compared to other Greater Manchester authorities, coupled with all those who the Government have identified that need shielding from the virus, and an awful lot of work in genuinely trying to get out there and help vulnerable people. Presenter: Is there anything you would like to say, really, to people at large in Stockport who may be listening to this? Cllr Wilson: One of the other things I wanted to talk about was Business Support. So, on Wednesday, the Council received money for the £10,000 and £25,000 grant funding from the Government, and so far we have been able to get over £8 million of that funding paid to businesses in Stockport, but I know that there are many more businesses that are eligible for those grants so I am asking all of Stockport businesses to contact the Council via the website. On the Council website, make sure they fill out the form on there, so we can get the money out to them as soon as possible. I know, cash flow is a real concern for businesses and we want to be able to support them as best we can, so if you are a business, and, you think you may be eligible or you’re not even sure if you are eligible for that money, then please do get in touch with us via the Council website so that we can really if you are eligible, we can get that money to you. Just like to finish with a bit of a thank you, yesterday, we all hopefully clapped and showed our support to all those key workers that are working really hard for the people of Stockport I just want to add my thanks to them, but also thank the people of Stockport, and all those volunteers that are coming out helping, following the Government advice and supporting those key workers in what is incredibly hard work, a lot of pressure and stress at times. They are really smashing it, they are really delivering, and I just wanted to make that point. Presenter: Yeah, in such unusual circumstances, absolutely. Cllr Wilson: Definitely, really unusual circumstances. Presenter: Yeah, that’s brilliant stuff. Thank you very much once again for your time, Elise. Cllr Wilson: No problem, I do appreciate it. Presenter: No problem, I look forward to talking to you again next week.
