Hi, everyone. I'm Suzy, and I'd love to tell you all about our exciting summer reading challenge. Have you heard of the challenge before? I bet you have. And if you haven't, or if you've forgotten, I can give you a quick reminder. So the idea is to read six books over the summer. So that's roughly one book a week, which I know you can do, no problem at all. And then when you've read the six books, you finish the challenge. We'd love you to borrow the books from your library. If you're not a member, all you have to do is come down to the library, speak to a member of staff, and they'll sort you out with a library card, and then you can borrow books straight away. You can also join online, just fill in the form with a member of your family and then come to the library and say, I've joined at home online and please, could I have my library card? The challenge for 2023 is ready, set, read. And that's all about bringing the power of sport games and physical activity to life through reading. You can sign up for the challenge for free at any library. Once you've signed up, you'll be given a booklet to keep. Every time you read a book, you're going to be given a sticker, and then once your booklets full of stickers, you finish the challenge. Once you've finished, you'll be awarded a certificate and a medal, and then you can bring those into school in September to share with your teachers and your friends. So some of you may already be members of the library and you might have already signed up for the challenge. It might be something that you've done through your school. I just want you to know that if you've got any questions whatsoever, all you need to do is contact your local library and they'll be able to give you all the information that you need. The good news is that you can read any six books you like so fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, you could even listen to some audiobooks if you would like to. I'll just give you a little bit of information about how to find the books when you come into a library. So you probably already know that we put our books on the shelves in a special way so that we can find them easily. If you wanted a fiction book like a Storybook, those books are put on the shelves under the author's last name in alphabetical order. So if you wanted to find a book by Jacqueline Wilson, her books would be on the shelf under W. If you were looking for a non-fiction book or a topic book, so a book about space, dinosaurs or cooking or anything like that, those books are put in order by the subject and they have a little code on them. We call it the Dewey number. Don't worry though, I was so much older than you before I could find books in a library. There'll be loads of lovely staff to help you. And if you're not sure what you want to read, they can recommend books for you too. If you like. You can also access books on a free online service called Borrowbox. All you need to do is ask an adult to help you get the app. It's really easy, and then you can download e-books to a device that you can read or you can just listen to audiobooks if you prefer. So there's lots of different ways to take part in the challenge and loads of lovely books out there for you to enjoy. Your local library will have so many fun activities happening to keep you busy over the summer. It's probably a good idea to ask an adult to follow their social media online and that will be a really good way to keep up to date with what's happening. I just want to say thank you for listening so well today. I hope you have an absolutely brilliant summer and we look forward to seeing you in a library very soon.
