What's your favourite bit of the story? What's that bit of the story? I don't know. What's your favourite bit of the story? The end. So, I've got this book and it's called I Am a Tiger and its about a tiger and a mouse on the mouse thinks it sees a tiger it and the mouse thinks the tiger's a mouse and at the end she thinks it's a crocodile. Grrrrr! My favourite bit of the book is because the mouse got all the names wrong me laugh. I am a Tiger by Karl Newson and Ross Collins. What did you like about the book I Am a Tiger? that it was funny. What bits did you find funny? Where the mouse says I am a tiger. Why did you like it? It was really funny. Why is it really funny? Cos they had like show and tell and they had like the moon...that's funny. Like this...That's funny. What's so funny about it? That someone brought the moon. look. The moon. I'm Elliot, I'm 6 and I love show and tell because someone brought the moon. My name is Tansy and I just read this book. Do you remember what it's called? The Best Kind of Bear. You have a favourite part? Yeah the Polar Bear It's this one. Why is this your favourite part? Because I like snow flakes, and some snow and polar bears. That's why. I like the story because I really like the bear who's all warm and soft but one bear didn't like the .... the... this little bear didn't like climbing trees or sleeping for a long time The nominations for the best read for Juniors aged 7 to 9 are Evie and the Animals by Matt Haig; Owen and the Soldier by Lisa Thompson; Cookie And The Most Annoying Boy in the World by Konnie Huq; Charlie Changes into a Chicken by Sam Copeland. I chose this book because it was named Cookie. And I really like cookies, they're really scrumptious. Also I chose this book because the colours are really bright and it stood out a lot to me. It's about Cookie. Her best friend moved away on a really annoying boy moved to town and he wants to buy the the kitten she wants. There's a big surprise at the end, so keep reading. I would recommend this book to all my friends at school because it's just a great book that everyone can enjoy. My name's Ellie and I'm 8 years old. My favourite book is Cookie and the Most Annoying Boy in the World by Konnie Huq, because it's very funny and it makes me laugh. Evie and the Animals is a great book for children and I loved the illustrations in it. It's basically about, well, this girl and she has superpowers and she's called Evie and she could read animal minds without moving their lips or making a sound. This book is a great book, and I would definitely recommend it to all my friends at school because it's magical, exciting & unusual. My favourite character is Plato, and he's Granny Flora's pet bearded dragon. He's my favourite character because I love the way his neck puffs out and turn from brown to black. There are lots of animal facts in this book and did you know that the bearded dragon has been around for over 30 million years? That's a long time. My favourite book is Evie and the Animals written by Matt Haig and illustrated by Emily Gravett. I have read Charlie Changes Into a Chicken by Sam Copeland. This is about a boy called Charlie who changes into different animals when he gets worried. I like this book because it is welcoming, funny and is while illustrated. The characters in it are Charlie and his friend's Flora, Wogan and Mohsen. There is a school bully called Dylan. My favourite part was when Chairman Meow tried to eat Charlie the spider and when he says Charlie has eight bums. I think you should read this book because it is a fantastic funny read. If I would rate it five out of five stars, I would rate it a five. I like Charlie Changes into a chicken because I like the bit where he turns into animals when he swears and I like the character Charlie and I like what it's called on the front cover and I like all the poo jokes. I think it's quite funny and, bye bye. My name is Charlie and I have read this book called Owen and the Soldier and I'm going to tell what it's about in the book review today. Okay, so the characters, Owen and his mum, Mr Jennings, Sean, Meghan and Camilla were all in the characters in the book. What's It about? Owen and Soldier is about Owen who finds a lonely stone soldier in a War Memorial garden. And he speaks to him. But one day he finds out the stone soldier is getting scrapped, he complains to the council about it and the stone soldier gets saved. Did you like the book? I did like the book because the stone soldier gets saved and it's a happy ending. The nominations for the best reads for juniors aged 9 to 11 are: What's That in Dog Years by Ben Davis; The Malamander by Thomas Taylor; Bloom by Nicola Skinner, and No Ballet Shoes in Syria by Catherine Bruton. I'm Olive and I'm in year five. When I read this book called Bloom, I really liked it, because on the front cover, it like builds up a bit of interest with the person looking at it because from the character Sorrell there's flowers growing out of the head so it would make you wonder why there's flowers coming out of her head. Another reason I really liked it because there's some funny parts and some kind of sad parts. A funny part I really liked was when it says are pupils allowed to sprint outside? The answer was never. A slight jog is allowed if you are in danger, for example, if you're being chased by a bear, and even then you must obtain written permission 28 days in advance. I would really like to read a lot more of Nicola Skinners books though. Bye. I recommend that you read the book Malamander as it is a great book and has a vague sense of mystery around. It is set in a seaside town that is really nice in the summer, but when it turns winter, it gets super dark. There is a there is a mysterious sea monster called the Malamander that is supposedly a myth that patrols the beaches. Then, the two main characters are Herbert on Violet set out on a quest to find out if it is real. I really recommend this book and you should read it. Hi I'm Lucy and I've been reading What's That in Dog Years? I really like this book because the dog Gizmo and George his owner have a very strong relationship and go on some really wacky adventures when George makes gizmo a bucket list. I would really recommend this book. I loved What's that in Dog Year by Ben Davis, because I love animals. It's about a boy called George and his pet dog Gizmo. Gizmo and George are best friends. Gizmo is 14 years old, which is 78 in human years. It's part funny and part sad and shows you how important pets are how they are always there for you, no matter what. Read it! read it. read it. Even Gizmo says so. Read it. Read it. This story is about a girl who comes from Aleppo, who comes to Britain for an asylum. She finds it really hard to fit in and she's the only person in her family that knows English. But her life changes at one ballet lesson when she meets some friends. I really recommend this book because it shows a view of an asylum that is not always shown. I think Aya is a really brave and courageous character in this story. Now it's time to reveal the winners! The winner of the best picture book 2020 is My Pet Star! By Corrinne Averiss. You gonna have to float down just a little bit. We can only see your leg. Yep keep going, keep going. Keep going. Cookie and the Most Annoying Boy in the World by Konnie Huq Hello, everyone. I'm Konnie Huq author of Cookie and the Most Annoying Boy in the World. I just want to say a huge thank you for receiving this fantastic award, the Stockport Children's Book Award for best book to read in the age 7 to 9 category. I am so, so chuffed to bits. I cannot tell you. It means so much because also this is better than many other awards as it's the Children that have voted and you guys are the ones that count because the book is for you and you are the future of tomorrow. I'd really like to thank all the libraries of Stockport and the Stockport librarians and the teachers. Keep encouraging kids to read its so important. The more you read as a child, the further you go in life and the better you do and kids that get into reading the world is their oyster. It means that they'll be adults into reading as well, which is massively important. Reading brings empathy and altruism and loads of brilliant qualities we need in our grown ups for the future of the world. It's been a strange year, so I just want to encourage you to keep on reading and keep on learning during these turbulent times and It's really, really great to be getting this award. It means the absolute world to me. So thanks once again to the child judges of Stockport. Last but not least, the winner of the Best read for juniors Age 9 to 11. Is..........What's That in Dog Years? by Ben Davis Hi everyone? Ben Davis here. Thank you so much. So I wanted to get my dog here, Tommy, Yeah Tommy that's the one in on the video, the acceptance video, but he spends most of his time sleeping, so I had to lie down on the floor to get him in cos I wanted to get Tommy in because Tommy was the inspiration for Gizmo from What's That in dog years? Because Tommy's, as you can see, he's getting on a bit now and he's been my dog for a long time. It was just looking at him that made me come up with the idea for Gizmo. So I thought, it would be nice to get him on, but it means I'm very uncomfortable and this isn't, this isn't a great place. You know what? I'm going to move. Ah, that's more like. Thank you. Thank you so much for voting for What's That in Dog Years to win the Stockport Children's Book Award. So So chuffed. It's been a strange old year, to put it mildly, but it's great to know that books are still out there still being enjoyed and that this is this is the witness. Thank you so much. Thank you as well to the organisers of the award for putting this together in what's the weirdest year in any of our lifetimes. Thank you to Oxford, who publish this book for all the work they've put into it, in particular my editor Kathy Webb, designer Rob Lowe no, not the famous one and so many others. Gillian Saw as well of course, Julia Christians who's the the illustrator and did the lovely drawings that you see in there, big up to Julia and my agent Penny Holroyd. My family, for putting up with me while I sit there writing these books, weeping because I can't do it. That's only slightly a joke. Yeah, thanks. Thanks. Thanks to everyone and stay safe, and keep well. Bye bye. Well that's it for this year. Thank you to all the teachers, parents, librarians, publishers and authors. You continue to encourage Children to read for pleasure and inspire imagination. A big thank you to all the Children who voted and huge thanks to all the Children who appeared in our video. See you all next year.
