Welcome to Stockport's Children's Book Awards 2021 Brought to you by Stockport Libraries Voted for by the children To promote reading for pleasure Helping to create a community of readers in Stockport Let's find out about the nominations The nominations for the Key Stage 1 Book Awards are: 'The Diddle That Dummed" by Kes Gray and Fred Blunt 'The Pirates are Coming!" by John Condon and Matt Hunt Thirdly, 'The Littlest Yak' by Lu Fraser and Kate Hindley I really liked this book because he dums when he's supposed to diddle I recommend this for other people to read I really liked 'The Diddle that Dummed' by Kes Grey and Fred Blunt because it was really funny and cute I would rate this book 10 out of 10 stars I would recommend this book to my friend Jessica I know she would like it because it's funny and cute This book is a good book because the little boy thinks the pirates are coming from their different boats and at the end they don't attack the people they're their family I liked the book 'The Pirates are Coming' because it tricked me I thought that the villagers were scared of the pirates but they were actually excited about them coming home I would rate this book 14 out of 10 stars I would recommmend it to my friend Harry because he likes pirates I like the yaks in this I really loved 'The Littlest Yak' because I liked Gertie She was a hero because she saved the teeniest yak even though she was very small The book makes me feel happy, I would give this book 10 out of 10 The nominations for the best Junior Read (aged 7 - 9) are: 'The Super Miraculous Journey of Freddie Yates' by Jenny Pearson 'The Beast and the Bethany' by Jack Meggittt-Phillips 'Life of Riley: Beginner's Luck' by Simon James Green I read 'The Super Miraculous Journey of Freddie Yates' by Jenny Pearson and my favourite part was where they ate a massive raw onion But some of them go in a massive strop because they got eliminated They go to all these different places around Wales and have tons of different adventures I would recommend it to all my friends I read 'The Beast and the Bethany' by Jack Meggittt-Phillips My favourite part was the ending where the parrot ate the deadliest creature Which as a worm which wasn't actually a worm, it's actually a beast, that turned into a worm I liked it because it's got loads of adjectives and describes things really well My favourite character is Bethany because she does lots of cheeky things I like it because it's full of emotions: sad, happy; and I like it when Ebenezer gets angry I liked it because I really liked Bethany and I liked how she's really mean and she doesn't like helping anyone And she's really stuck up and doesn't really like doing much I really enjoyed this book cos it's really funny I'd recommend it to all my family and everyone in this school We've been reading 'Life of Riley: Beginner's Luck' by Simon James Green My favourite part of this book is they go on loads of adventures and it's really funny The nominations for the best Junior Read (aged 9 - 11) are: 'The House of One Hundred Clocks' by A.M. Howell 'Voyage of the Sparrowhawk' by Natasha Farrant 'The Vanishing Trick' by Jenni Spangler I really liked the book 'The House of One Hundred Clocks' because it was really intriguing and after every turn, a new mystery awaited the main character I like that it leaves you on a lot of cliffhangers and you get to know the characters really well It's not just like a secription of one that's quite bland, it's really detailed so you really know who they are I'm reading 'The House of One Hundred Clocks' by A.M. Howell Which I would recommend because it is written in a very mysterious way, and I like it I like the vocabulary because it helps me picture the surroudnings very well in my head My favourite part of the story is at the end when they talk to Katherine about what she's been doing My favourite part of the story is when they all get to the dining table and start mimicking the people I read 'The House of One Hundred Clocks' by A.M. Howell I really love this book because it was full of mysterous plot twists and turns and it really got me hooked into it I like this book 'Voyage of the Sparrowhawk' by Natasha Farrant because there were many twists and turns and normally in a book you can predict what happens but in this one you couldn't My favourite character is Sam because he is courageous and went off to fight in the war to help I like it because it's very adventurous and I feel like many people would love to read it because it has excitement and yet a bit of joy Well I like the book because it's adventurous and yet at the same time it's got a bit of tension thrown in there, And some sadness and also some happiness at the same time All just jumbled in a big bundle My favourite bit is in the beginning because there is the orphanage and the kids are being treated poorly and then Nathan decides to be really kind and decides to adopt two of the children and kind of saves them from misery Well I'd recommend the book to anybody who likes action books, things like that, adventure books We read 'The Vanishing Trick' by Jenni Spangler We really enjoyed it because it was set in Victorian times I really like 'The Vanishing Trick' because at every corner of the book, you can tell what's going to come next and because there's a race against time There was a boy and two other children who were snatched from their lives And they're stored in cabinets So it's a secret magic this lady has And she gets weaker every day For three of them And so soon one of them will have to disappear and she won't talk about it so one of them will die and be trapped forever I love Stockport Book Awards because it's encouraged me to read different books I love books because it's a way to escape into a different world, Whether it's a fairy tale or someone else's problems It's really fun to read and just get away from all your problems or things that are happening in the real world And I would recommend the Stockport Book Awards to everyone Because it gives you the chance to read the books you wouldn't usually think to read And now it's time to announce the winners!
