As an autism social worker I am working with anyone in Stockport that may have an autism diagnosis, an adult, and with that I will complete assessments, signpost people based on that assessment to services that might help them. I am a social worker on the Early Adulthood team which is very similar. I support people from the age of 17 and then we start working with them from around their 18th birthday so it's transition work from children's services to adults. I think our work positively impacts the people we are working with. For example on my team we are supporting people who may have never received support from children's services and you know have relied on families for a long time. a lot of support and now getting to adulthood need that kind of additional support. It's like helping people with this new chapter in their life isn't it? Transitions work. Something that I guess I'm proud of is when I've helped someone move into a new accommodation when their home life wasn't working around their autism needs. My favourite aspect is the teams that we're on are challenging teams and every person that we're on is a challenge. and every person we meet it's different and it's different and it will have new outcomes coming from it. We're doing different things all the time to support people and working in like creative ways to kind of meet their needs and their desired outcomes for what they would like for their future.
